I Overslept on the Morning of My Crucial College Entrance Exams Because Someone Turned off My Alarm

On the morning of my medical entrance exam, I woke up in a panic, discovering all my alarms had been turned off. In that moment of desperation, my 8-year-old brother stepped in, his bravery and quick thinking saving the day.

Becoming a doctor had been my dream since I was young, only deepening after my mother passed away from cancer. I wanted to help people like her, to understand the disease that had taken her, and give others a fighting chance. For years, I studied late into the night, preparing for this one exam that would bring me closer to that goal.

I made every effort to wake up on time, setting three separate alarms and leaving my curtains open to let in the morning light. Before falling asleep, I thought of my mother and promised myself I’d make her proud. But when I opened my eyes the next morning, something was wrong—it was still dark. I grabbed my phone and froze: it was 9:55 a.m., just five minutes before my exam started. All my alarms had been mysteriously turned off.

In a rush, I flew down the stairs, searching frantically for my stepmother, Linda, begging her for a ride. She watched me with a cool, distant gaze, sipping her coffee with a smirk. “You’re late already,” she said, shrugging. “Maybe you’re just not cut out for medical school.”

Her dismissive words stung, but I couldn’t let them stop me. Desperate to make it to my exam on time, I turned toward the door, determined to run if I had to. Just then, I heard my little brother Jason’s voice, nervous but steady. “I know what happened,” he said softly. “I saw her last night. Linda turned off your alarms.”

Linda’s eyes narrowed as Jason continued, recounting how she had crept into my room and disabled the alarms. Caught in her lie, she crossed her arms and sneered, “You wouldn’t have made it anyway. Becoming a doctor is a waste of time and money.”

I couldn’t believe the cruelty of her actions, but Jason had one last surprise. “I called for help,” he said, holding my hand tightly as the sound of sirens filled the air. Moments later, two police officers arrived, and Jason bravely explained everything. Recognizing the urgency, the officers offered me a ride. With Jason cheering me on, I sped through the city in a squad car, arriving at the college just in time.

At the exam hall, the proctors allowed me to sit for the test, and as I took my seat, I felt my mother’s memory urging me on. Hours later, I walked out, exhausted but relieved. Jason was waiting for me at home, beaming with pride. Together, we shared what had happened with our dad, who, after listening in silence, asked Linda to leave our home.

Jason had not only saved my chance to take the exam but had also revealed the truth about Linda’s betrayal. In the end, his love and courage made my dreams possible, and I knew my mother would have been incredibly proud of him.
